John Lewis First To Sell Samsung 40 inch 3D TVs in the UK

The 3D revolution has officially started at John Lewis. The high street chain has won the battle to have the first Samsung 3D TVs for sale in the UK. The first model available is the 40 inch 7000 series LED 3D TV.

While it is expected 3D-ready Televisions will hit the markets in time for the World Cup, John Lewis has beaten its rivals by offering the Samsung 40-inch UE40C7000 LED TV at its stores and online. John Lewis will also be selling Samsung’s C6900 3D Blu-ray player (£349) and an active 3D glasses pack(£149).

If buyers are prepared to pick up the whole package of the 3D television and Blu-ray player, -the store throws in the glasses and movie for free. This offer is only available until the 30th of June.

The 3D products are now available in the John Lewis’ flagship store in Oxford Street and online. Other branches such as Brent Cross, Bluewater, Kingston and Cribbs Causeway, will follow suit at the weekend.

It will be interesting to see how well 3D TVs and technology performs at John Lewis, as the majority of content is still on its way. Regardless, there’s no doubt that the new category has manufacturers and retailers frothing at the bit:

“I believe there will be a really strong future as programme makers, the gaming industry and the movie industry (in the form of 3D Blu-ray titles) all see 3D as a great way to enhance the value of their content. It gives their customers a vastly improved viewing experience”, says John Kempner, buyer for vision at JL. “I can see a time when all large screen TVs (above 32in) sold by John Lewis will be 3D-ready – possibly in about two to three years time”.
